Today I’ll give you a quick preview of our latest feature, the Link Alerts. This feature is very simple and straightforward. If you do know Google Alerts, this is Link Alerts. It’s Google Alerts for links. So how does it work? You give us your domain– let’s take a quick look– and we do recrawl our 12 different link backends on a regular basis and send you an email if we find new links. How cool is that?

You come into the office on Monday morning and see that you do have new links to look at. New links to your own site, but maybe also links to your competitor’s site that you can go after. And that’s a great thing. If you have your competitors barter deals for links and convince a webmaster that it’s great to link up to them, you could just follow up and piggyback that, and take the chance to get a link, too.

And once you’ve got that email, you just look into the data. And you’ve got all the quality data that you are used to from Link Alerts, which means you see links that are dropped as well. For instance, this one here looks pretty weird. I’m not sure why Oliver Haus of SEOkomm would have removed the link to Link Research Tools, but I’m going to follow up in a minute with him.

And well this is more of the type of temporary links that usually disappear after a while. Let’s look at a no-follow status. The tool page from SEO Wolf suddenly has the link NO-FOLLOWed Take a look. All right. Now this is big paranoia. For whatever reason, everything that is being linked on here is a no-follow now. But for now, I would say this is a OK link.

What about Wiep? OK, well this is the banner that he has up, and he marked this with a no-follow to say yeah Link Research Tools didn’t pay me for that. But it would maybe make sense to give that link an anchor text. I’m going to send him an email, too. So anyways, that’s a good link, too, for all the Wiep pages. Because it’s highly on-topic, and frankly, I love no-follow links, especially from on-topic sites.

Oh, and Yahoo has linked to our Link Research Tools, as well. And as you can see, well, this is a pretty nice one. There’s 94 backlinks to the page and we can try look at them now. Analyze the page backlinks to all those 95 links and see how strong they really are. Because good link pages can always take a couple more links. So we can start a report and look at the backlinks of the pages that have a new link to us. And, yeah, this roundup from Yahoo is pretty cool, the YSM Blog.

Yeah, and Search Engine Watch is there. We’ve been mentioned on Search Engine Watch a couple times. Love that. And another one on the internal link housekeeping. Well, that is one thing you can do pretty well with us. OK, all right. As you can see you all these are generally pretty obvious links.

Oh yeah, and this is the review from Ann Smarty. I was Ann’s September, actually. But it didn’t show up in the Link Alert so far, so we list it. And this is a really rave review about all the seven tools that we have, end of September. I highly recommend you to read that one. And I think there’s nothing to add, in terms of linking, because this is all about the product.

A more common use would be that I would set up a link alert, maybe on competing SEO tools so that we could actually maybe try to get a good cross citation and email a webmaster that links to a competitor and tell him hey, why not mention Link Research Tools as well?

That’s it for the Link Research Tools Link Alerts. Just a quick view on how does the set up work. All you have to do is you give us you domain. And we can integrate Google Analytics if this is your own site, via API. We can integrate SeoMoz backlinks, Sistrix backlinks, the page APIs. All you have to do, give us a key. And of course, all the other 12 backlink APIs that we crawl anyways. So we aggregate all that, filter it, and then tell you exactly what anchor text, what link status does the link have today when you look at this. I’m not interested in looking at links that are not there anymore. That’s about this feature.
